June 28, 2008
Group B of the six-match semifinal round of CONCACAF qualifying for 2010 FIFA World Cup™ is considered the “Group of Death” and will features Jamaica, Mexico, Honduras and Canada, when it gets underway on August 20th.
In this group, the Reggae Boyz will face three of the confederation’s top four nations, according to the FIFA World rankings, in Mexico (ranked 1st), Honduras (ranked 3rd) and Canada (ranked 4th). Adding to the intrigue is that Jamaica’s National Stadium (The Office), Mexico’s Estadio Azteca, and the Estadio Olimpico in San Pedro Sula, Honduras, are considered to be some the confederation’s toughest home venues for opponents to win in.
Although regarded as the weakest team in the group, Jamaica has found new life with the return of Captain Horace Burrell to the helm of the Federation and the reappointment of technical director Rene Simoes who led The Reggae Boyz to their historic World Cup berth in 1998. In their effort to prove that they are once again a team on a mission, Jamaica has called up some of their most talented professionals that can pose problems to their opponents at any level of the game.....More in the News | Preview the three groups
