JANUARY
Jamaica's Under-17 footballers lost three games and drew
one on tour, in Brazil's Rio de Janeiro Cup. This was
in preparation for the CONCACAF Under-17 final Youth World
Cup qualifying tournament at Jarrett park, Montego Bay
Feb. 24-28.
Theodore
Whitmore, scorer of two goals for Jamaica in the World
Cup finals tournament in France, and striker Walter Boyd
visit China for a one-week tryout with a leading clubs
in Shanghai.
Jamaica's
Under 20 footballers fell short in their bid to qualify
for the U-20 Youth World Cup, losing to Mexico, Guatemala
and Honduras.
FEBRUARY
Jamaica
and Costa Rica play to 1-1 tie.
The Reggae Boyz started their 1999 season by playing to
a 1-1 tie at the against Costa Rica at Jamaica's National
Stadium (the Office). Deon Burton came on as a substitute
in the second half scored the equalizer in the 83rd minute.
Jamaica now has an unbeaten 37 game at the National Stadium.
In the Under 17 Youth World Cup CONCACAF qualifying competition,
Jamaica defeated Honduras 1-0 and Costa Rica 2-0 to take
an early lead in their group.The United States defeated
Honduras 3-0 and played played to a 2-2 tie with Costa
Rica. The winner of this round will automatically qualify
for a spot in New Zealand, and the runner up will meet
the second place team in the other CONCACAF qualifying
group for the final spot.

Rica Trash Jamaica 9-0
Jamaica suffered a humiliating 9-0 trashing from Costa
Rica in their return game in San Jose. This was the worst
defeat for the Reggae Boyz in over five years. Jamaica
was playing without their English based players

Jamaica
U17 Boys advance to U17 World Cup
The Under 17 Youth World Cup CONCACAF qualifying competition
saw Jamaica and the United States playing to a 0-0 draw,
giving Jamaica the top spot in the group. Jamaica now
becomes the first English speaking Caribbean team to advance
to the finals.
Jamaica's
Reggae Boyz Second in Four Nation Tournament
Playing without many of their world cup starters, Jamaica
played strong to finish second in the Copa Guatemala International
football tournament. Jamaica drew a hard fought first
game against Bolivia 0-0. With only four of their regular
starters the new look Jamaica team gave the more experienced
Bolivian team a lot of trouble. Jamaica' keeper Aron Lawrence
saved a penalty while Jamaica missed one of their own.
APRIL
U
17 TEAM DEFEATED IN TOURNAMENT
The young "Reggae Boyz" finished bottom of the standings
in a four-nation tournament, which included Mexico, the
United States Jamaica and Morocco. The young Jamaicans,
who qualified for the FIFA under-17 world youth championship,
lost 1-0 to the USA, 5-0 to Mexico and 1-0 to Morocco.

DEFEAT PARAGUAY 3-0
Jamaica's Reggae Boyz extended their undefeated run at
the National Stadium in Jamaica to 37 games as they defeated
1998 World Cup Qualifer Paraguay 3-0. This win was sweet
revenge for the Boyz who recently lost 3-1 to Paraguay
in the Copa Guatemala International football tournament
in Guatelama. The second half saw new Reggae Boyz David
Johnson striker of Ipswitch score in his first game at
the stadium to give Jamaica a convincing 3-0 win.

CARL
BROWN REPLACED
Two time Caribbean Cup winning coach Carl Brown was replaced
as Jamaica's head coach by Wendel Downswell, who was currently
training the under 23 team. Coach Carl Brown lashed out
at the Jamaica Football Federation stating he was slowly
pushed from the program.
SOUTH
AFRICA & JAMAICA TIE 1-1
Theodore Whitmore scored to keep Jamaica's unbeaten record
at home when they held South Africa to a 1-1 scoreline
at the National Stadium. Playing in wet and scrappy conditions
the Reggae Boyz played an exciting and entertaining game
but failed to capitalize on their early chances

WIN 1-0 OVER WEST BROMWICH ALBION MAY 24 Jamaica's Marcus
Gayle scored the only goal in the 52nd minute to give
the Reggae Boyz a 1-0 win over a West Bromwich's team
that included former stalwarts Bryan Robson and John Barnes.

6, JAMAICA 0
Norway destroyed Jamaica's Reggae Boyz 6-0 in a friendly
soccer game at the Ulleval stadium in Norway. Striker
Tore Andre Flo scored twice for Norway.

falls 1-0 to T&T in Copa Caribe football
Trinidad and Tobago captured the Copa Caribe championship
Trinidad and Tobago defeated defending champions Jamaica
1-0 in their Group "A" Copa Caribe football match at the
Hasely Crawford Stadium

BOYZ DEFEAT SAUDI ARABIA IN FIRST OF TWO GAMES
The Reggae Boyz defeated Saudi Arabia 2-1 in the first
of two games at the San Bernadino Blaste Stadium in Los
Angeles, California.

The Reggae Boyz lost their second game against Saudi Arabia
4-0 on Thursday July 15.

The son of Jamaica Football Federation President Captain
Horace Burrell, 19 year old Tajh Burrell and a friend
22 year old Jason Byles were shot in the Liguanea area

STOPS JAMAICA
Jamaica's Under 23 soccer team suffered its first loss
of the Pan American Games when they were defeated 2-1
by the USA.

COACHES
REQUIRED TO BE CERTIFIED
A number of new regulations have been put in place by
the JFF for the new Craven 'A' National Premier League
season. Coaches are now required to have a minimum of
a Level Two coaching certificate to be the coach of a
Premier league team.

Black Stars rounded off the activities of this year's
PANAFEST on a joyous note as they beat the Reggae Boyz
of Jamaica 2-1 in an international friendly football match
played at the Accra Sports Stadium for the PANAFEST trophy.

The Reggae Boyz suffered a 1-0 loss to Canada in a friendly
international at the Varsity Stadium in Toronto

USA DRAW
Jamaica's Reggae Boyz played to a 2-2 draw against the
United States in an international soccer friendly at the
National Stadium. The match was the 41st straight game
that Jamaica played at home without a loss.

Jamaican World Cup stars Theodore Whitmore and Ian Goodison.
Tigers boss Warren Joyce reached an agreement with the

SCORES 2 GOALS IN DEBUT
Jamaica striker Walter "Black Pearl" Boyd made a sensational
start to the English Third Division by scoring 2 goals
as Swansea defeated Rotherham United 2 - 0 at Vetch Field.

The Reggae Boyz defeated the Cayman Islands 4-1 at the
Truman Bodden Sports Complex in Grand Cayman.

BETWEEN SIMOES AND SKILL COLE
Technical director, Rene Simoes, and Jamaica's football
legend Allan "Skill" Cole, almost came to a fight at the
National Stadium. The incident started when Simoes questioned
why Jamaica's new sensation Ricardo Fuller was doing power
training (weight lifting) unsupervised by a professional
and not at his club's training.

MAKES EARLY EXIT Nov 17 Jamaica's U-17 football team made
an early exit from the Youth World Cup in New Zealand
losing all their games.

MAKES RECORD HEADLINES
Walter Boyd again made sensational headlines. This time
not for his great ball handling skills but for what is
called "the fastest red card ever recorded".

FULLER GETS TWO MONTHS SUSPENSION Jamaica's and Tivoli
Gardens forward Ricardo Fuller has been given a two months
suspension and fined $30,000 by the Jamaica Football Frederation
(JFF) and was also made accountable for the medical expenses
of Wadadah defender, Garfield Brown.

MAKES CHARLTON DEBUT
Jamaican centre-forward Ricardo Fuller had a good debut
for Charlton Athletic with a beautifully headed goal gaving
Athletic Reserves at 2-1 victory over Southampton Reserves
in FA Premier Reserve League.

Jamaican internationals, Theodore Whitmore and Ian Goodison
were impressive for third division Hull City against Premier

Technical Director Rene Simones is facing a possible paycut
according to recent reports from Jamaica.

SQUAD NAMED BY THE JFF
A strong 35-man squad was named by the JFF in preparations
for the CONCACAF Gold Cup in February, the Olympic qualifiers
to be held in Mexico and the World Cup qualifiers that
will begin in October next year.
