Do you think these Guys still have what it takes to make the national team or hold down a sensible contract elsewhere?

I think the biggest issue is their salary may be above what a League Two team is willing to pay.

Depends on the individual player. Not having football Contracts abroad have never stopped players from starting in the national team.......As a matter of fact - Football contracts abroad have not guaranteed anyone a place in the national team/squad.

Depends on the player and his rep.......Are we talking just about England? (Or)..... players have boots will travel?

If Omar Daley can easily pass a physical, he should be able to land a contract in the lower tier league even in Scotland. The bigger issue is did he get UK residency because he certainly does not have enough international caps.

Well Lincoln I wouldnt advise any yard baller to look to the uk only to eat a food. with regards to the national set up ...If we are still depending on Daley ( have nothing against the player) to carry us forward that means development of talent is slow on the rock. or may be we still belive 23-26 year old ballers are still youngsters.

Omar Daley was one of the best players in his division until his knee injury. Bradford is having financial difficulty, and they have culled a number of players. There are ways around the work permit stuff, and I hope that Omar will find another club.

Daley the biggest casualty as City look to the future

Tuesday 10 May 2011

For 10 members of this season’s squad, Saturday’s home thumping at the hands of Crewe signals a disappointing end to their Bradford City careers.

The Bantams announced their release list yesterday detailing the players who have failed to earn a new contract for next season.

Omar Daley’s inclusion was perhaps the biggest surprise. The Jamaican international has been with the club since January 2007 and has been a fan’s favourite since scoring his first City goal against Yorkshire rivals Rotherham United.

Daley, who has played over 50 times for his country, was named in the PFA League Two Team of the Year at the end of the 2008-09 campaign and earned a new three-year contract that season.

Injuries have blighted his Bantams career since. After a bad knee injury in February 2009, Daley suffered a series of setbacks but has still managed five goals from 22 starts for the club this season.

Bradford manager Peter Jackson said that the decision to release Daley was simply business.

“A lot of it is financial,” he said. “I just need to look ahead to next season. I felt it was the right decision because we need a complete change of personnel and a change in mentality.”

I think the key thing is Daley was more of a luxury player than anything else. The fans liked him but couldn't afford him. According to estimates he was the highest paid at the club. Anyway he'll move on to other clubs but the work permit might be an issue.

Maybe this may answer another question for some folks. Remember the Donavon Ricketts incident? I told you guys that Ricketts' debacle at Bradford was more of a financial issue rather than questions about the player's ability but many of us jumped on the first chance to throw the player under the bus.........Ricketts is now a better player than at Bradford.

Players have to know about the clubs they are signing with. There are clubs in Europe where players have to wait months for their salary because the clubs just do not have the money. Some clubs even get penalized by the league because their financial situation is not in order.

-Peace.
