Local 'ballers try to impress Schafer today BY HOWARD WALKER Observer senior reporter walkerh@jamaicaobserver.com Wednesday, August 28, 2013 Print this page Email A Friend! JERMAINE 'Tuffy' Anderson heads a 25-member local squad that has been selected by the Jamaica Football Federation's (JFF) technical staff for a one-off squad match set for 4:00 pm today at the JFF Training Centre, at the University of the West Indies, Mona. The training session will provide the players with a chance to impress the coaching staff, headed by new head coach Winfred Schafer, ahead of Jamaica's World Cup qualifier away to Panama on September 6. Hide DescriptionPresident of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) Captain Horace Burrell (left) greets Reggae Boyz head coach Winfried Schafer at last month’s press conference at the Federation’s offices to present the new coach. 1/1 The overseas contingent is expected to start arriving on September 2. Schafer's assistant, Vin Blaine, told the Jamaica Observer that this squad is to expose some players to head coach. "He requested that he wanted to look at the local players and it was supposed to be done before, but because he had to go to England and look at players it was delayed," noted Blaine. "I still believe it was important for him to have a look and see what he has here. He viewed some games in the Champions Cup and he would not necessarily have seen some of these players," Blaine explained. "It's a one-off game, not a training camp, and he will be making his observations from there," he added. Anderson, 34, has been one of the most prolific local strikers of recent times and his non-selection for Jamaica's World Cup campaign has been one of the most topical issues. The Waterhouse hit man has been given another chance to prove himself along with several fringe national players in Jacomeno Barrett (Montego Bay United), Richard McCullum (Waterhouse), Adrian Reid, Ewan Grandison (Portmore United), Dicoy Williams, Montrose Phinn (Harbour View), Dino Williams (Montego Bay United), Wolry Wolfe (Humble Lion), Kaemmar Daley (Tivoli Gardens), and Waterhouse's new signees Lamar Nelson and Marvin Morgan. The other members are: Andre Clennon (Arnett Gardens), Daemion Benjamin, Renae Lloyd (Boys' Town), Gariece McPherson (Cavalier), John Ross Edwards, Lemar Lawrence (Harbour View), Allan Ottey (Montego Bay United), Rosario Harriott, Levaughn Williams (Portmore United), Linval Lewis, Francois Swaby (Sporting Central Academy), Jameel Thompson (Tivoli Gardens), and Hughan Gray (Waterhouse). National players Evan Taylor, Joel Senior and Xavean Virgo are absent from this selection for varying reasons from injuries to overseas commitments. Tuffy hopes to grab Reggae Boyz chance
Waterhouse striker Jermaine Anderson. Marc Stamp, Star Writer
Waterhouse forward Jermaine 'Tuffy' Anderson will get a chance to impress new Jamaica national men's football team head coach Winfried Schafer after he was called to a 24-man squad for a training session/squad match at the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) training facility at the University of the West Indies, Mona campus, today, starting at 4 p.m.
Anderson, who won the Red Stripe Premier League goalscorer award in the last two seasons was named among 24 local-based players in preparation for a crucial World Cup Qualification clash against Panama away on September 6.
"I'll just have to see what is happening as it is only a one-day thing. I am going there on Wednesday (today) to do my best, It is an opportunity to show the new coach what I can do. I aim to do my best," Anderson said when contacted yesterday.
Anderson's call-up to the local squad is little surprising as he also walked off with the Most Valuable Player award at the conclusion of the 2012/13 RSPL season. His goalscoring achievements helped Waterhouse to second place behind champions Harbour View.
The 33-year-old represented Jamaica at the Digicel Caribbean Cup last December but was not included in the squad for the World Cup Qualification.
The squad: Andre Clennon, Daemion Benjamin, Renae Lloyd, Gariece McPherson, Montrose Phinn, Dicoy Williams, John-Ross Edwards, Wolry Wolfe, Allan Ottey, Jacomeno Barrett, Adrian Reid, Rosario Harriott, Ewan Grandison, Levaughn Williams, Linval Lewis, Francois Swaby, Jameel Thompson, Keammar Daley, Richard McCallum, Hughan Gray, Jermaine Anderson, Lamar Nelson and Marvin Morgan.

Of all those outfield players who played in today's practice game, how many outfield players were in Tappa's World Cup squad during the semi-finals of the HEX? Ewan Grandison, Montrose Phinn and Dicoy Williams
So if them never good enough for Tappa team,it shouldn't be a surprise that Schaefer didn't see much on display, especially when all of them have not played a league match in months.

Two players impress Schafer BY HOWARD WALKER Observer senior reporter walkerh@jamaicaobserver.com Observer senior reporter walkerh@jamaicaobserver.com Thursday, August 29, 2013 Print this page Email A Friend! Two defenders caught the eye of head coach Winfried Schafer and could be in the reckoning for possible selection to the Reggae Boyz's squad following yesterday's squad match at the JFF Training Centre at the UWI field. However, the German refused to name the players who would have impressed him in the game which saw the Yellow team defeating the Green team 2-1. Hide DescriptionDicoy Williams (centre) of the Green team tries to split Wolry Wolfe (left) and Damion Williams (right) of the Yellow team during yesterday’s squad match at the JFF Training Centre at UWI, Mona. (PHOTO: GARFIELD ROBINSON) 1/1 "Two players played very well, but I cannot tell now because it is unfair to the other players," reported Schafer. "Our (Reggae Boyz) problem is in defence. Nosworthy (Nyron) is out. Two players looked very well in defence. They played without foul and opened with the first pass to midfield. Maybe one of the defenders come to us (national team). Today is not clear," he added. Meanwhile, new Arnett Gardens signee Andre Clennon opened the scoring for the Yellow team before Kaemmar Daley was given a gift by goalkeeper Richard McCullum and levelled the scores for the Green team, heading into the break. Substitute Jermaine Woozencraft found the clincher late on for the Yellow team. The impressive Clennon, who started on the yellow team, was switched to the Green team after the interval to partner Jermaine Anderson, a possible indication that he had caught the eyes of the coaching staff. Assistant coach Vin Blaine had a short discussion with Clennon at the half-time break. Midfielder Damion Williams started in defence along with Linval Lewis and looked assured for the Yellow team. Adrian Reid, Montrose Phinn and Dicoy Williams started for the Green team in defence and all could be in the reckoning. Veteran Wolry Wolfe pulled the strings in midfield for the Yellow team in a match in which few players stood out. Coach Schafer did admit that he would love to see the players more as the one off game was inadequate. Lamar Nelson, now at Waterhouse FC, did not show up for the squad match as he is reported injured. Read more: http://www.jamaicaobserver.com/sport/Two-players-impress-Schafer_14967459#ixzz2dM9COOZO

Seems logical.
But let them blame him for the state of the economy as well!

I feel so bad for Dicoy Williams. He was so good before he was injured.

Funny. I listened to the interview and I didn't hear this indictment against the Jamaican players.
What I heard was that he was impressed by 2 players who nobody spoke about before. My interpretation is that HE identified 2 other players he came in thinking were just there to fill out the roster. And who knows the context in which he said it as they did not present the interview in its entirety.

Schafer and the JFF must stop take people for idiot. What is the point of having this match and then not having any subsequent matches or even training sessions for him to evaluate the players?
