Radiothon for the Reggaeboyz.

The Jamaica Football Federation and WAVS Radio along
with Club Norman's sponsored a Radiothon for the boyz
in Miami. All donations go to the JFF . The radiothon
was broadcasted live on WAVS 1170am in Miami,
Florida. Anyone wishing to contribute to the team can
contact the Jamaica Football Federation.
FIFA gives
O.K....Marcus Gayle to play for The Reggae Boyz

FIFA has given the go ahead for Wimbledon's striker
Marcus Gayle to play for The Reggae Boyz. Because of
contractual agreements with Wimbledon Gayle face the
prospect of not representing his country. The Jamaica
Football Federation protested to FIFA and the
decision was made in Jamaica's favor. Marcus Gayle
will will be able to play for the boyz at the
CONCACAF Gold Cup in the USA with the first game
February 3 against Champions Brazil. Jamaica will be
at full strength with the inclusion of Paul Hall,
Fitzroy Simpson, Deon Burton, and Marcus Gale. Robbie
Earl is out due to injury.

The Reggae Boyz returned home from their tour of
Brazil on Monday and will face Sweden tonight at the
National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica. The squad
named by Rene Simones includes Warren Barrett, Linval
Dixon, Stephen Malcolm, Ian Goodison, Ricardo
Gardener, Durrent Brown, Theodore Whitmore, Peter
Cargill, Fitzroy Simpson, Paul Hall, Aaron Lawrence,
Andrew Williams, Clifton Waugh, Christopher Dawes,
Gregory Messam, Fitzroy Simpson, Paul Hall, Winston
Griffiths, Donovan Ricketts and Onandi Lowe. Local
favorite Walter Boyd, who toured with the squad in
Brazil was omitted because of injury.
Sweden who finished
third in the 1994 World Cup Finals has brought a
fairly young squad for this friendly against Jamaica.
This will be Jamaica's last game in preparation for
the CONCACAF Gold Cup, where they will face world
champions Brazil at the Orange Bowl Stadium in Miami
on February 3. The team will depart from Jamaica for
this event on Friday.

Boyz taste defeat again

As the boyz continue to experiment with different
players they were defeated 1-0 by Caxias in a
friendly on Saturday. They also suffered 3-1 defeat
by Coritiba and also fell 1-0 to Ponte Preta earlier
in the week. .Jamaica will return home today and will
play Sweden at the National Stadium in Kingston on
January 28.

Jamaica's and Wimbledon's Robbie Earle may
miss some of upcoming warm up games for the World Cup
after limping off with a knee injury in Saturday's
English F.A. Cup match against Huddersfield. Earle's
knee was badly swollen and could involve damage to
the cruciate ligaments. The results will be known
after he is x-rayed. Earle is amond six english based
players to join The Reggae Boyz for February's Gold
Cup tournament.

to miss Sweden game

According to recent reports Wimbledon's striker
Marcus Gayle will not be in the starting line-up
against Sweden on January 28 in Kingston because of a
contract clause. The Jamaica Football Federation is
said to be protesting the situation to FIFA, The
English Premier League and also The English Football
Association. Reports also indicates that the English
based players are getting a lot of pressure from
their club teams because of their schedules with The
Reggae Boyz.

fortune for Reggae Boyz in Brazil
Jan 22 -
The "Reggae Boyz" tour of Brazil has been a
learning experience for the young Jamaican team. They
started with a 1-0 win over provincial Uniao Sao Joao
and then a 2-0 victory over Mogi Morim before losing
4-0 to Corinthians, 3-0 to Romario's Flamengo and
also 3-1 earlier this week. The team still has five
months to go before World Cup 98 and we are
definitely going to improve according to
captain/goalkeeper Warren Barrett. " Coach
Simones stated that they were not worried about
winning or losing as long as the team learns from
their experience. Jamaica has not been at full
strength and six internationals including Chelsea's
Frank Sinclair, Dean Burton of Derby County and
Wimbledon's Robbie Earle and Marcus Gayle, will join
the team for the Gold Cup tournament in February.

fall to Flamengo

Flamengo playing before an excited home crowd,
defeated the Reggae Boyz 3-0 last night. It was a
very exciting event as the hype of the Reggae Boyz
and the possibility of Romario scoring his 600th goal
created a packed house. Midway in the first half
Palhinha scores to put Flamengo ahead. Three minutes
into the second half Cleisson makes 2-0 and Palhinha
strikes again at the 16 minute marker to make it 3-0.
Jamaica will play Division 1 club Coritiba next and
then will meet World Cup finalists Paraguay on
January 22.

Reggae Boyz
lose to Corinthians
Jan 16
1998 World Cup qualify Jamaica lost to Corinthians of
Brazil 4-0 under soggy conditions at the Black
Mountain Range Stadium. Corinthians, a division 1
team, open scoring 9 minutes into the half after
Fabio dribbled into the goal area and scored. Two
minutes later Corinthians again struck, when Lopez
beat goalkeeper Barrett. In the second half Edilson
scored twice to give his team victory. Jamaica was
not at full strength. The Boyz will play Flamengo on
Saturday Jan. 17, at 21:30h, in the Golden Mountain
range.
SALUTE TO
"REGGAE BOYZ" PLANNED IN MIAMI

Preparations are underway as thousands of Jamaican
and Caribbean residents in South Florida get ready to
welcome Jamaica's national soccer team, "The
Reggae Boyz" with a stirring pep-rally and
fundraiser in Miami on Sunday, February 1, at the
AT&T Amphitheater, in Bayfront Park.
Billed as "South Florida's Salute To "The
Reggae Boyz", the event -which is being
coordinated by Jamaica Awareness and Caribbean
Rhythms, Inc., -will feature a number of
Florida-based reggae and soca entertainers, along
with top international reggae stars, who will appear
as guest performers, before an anticipated crowd of
thousands. A number of local civic and political
officials, led by Jamaica's Consul General, Mr. John
Atkins, will also be on hand to officially declare
the day "Reggae Boyz Day" and present the
team with the keys to their various cities along with
other commendations. The team recently made history
as the first soccer team from the English speaking
Caribbean to qualify for the World Cup competition.
"We are delighted to be able to show our support
for the team here in Florida." Commented Pat
Montague, Jamaica's Information Officer in Miami and
a member of the organizing team. "A number of us
were not able to enjoy the real spirit of the team's
achievements, and this gives us an opportunity to
show our support and be a part of the
excitement." She concluded. The event will take
place just a couple days before the "Reggae
Boyz" tackle World Cup champions Brazil in the Orange
Bowl on Feb. 3 and will serve as a big pre-game
celebration. It is anticipated that a number of
supporters will travel from other U.S. cities to show
their support for the team. A strong contingent from
Jamaica is also expected to be in Florida for the
salute.
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) will benefit
from the proceeds -Ten Dollars admission is being
charged, children under 12 free -which will assist
the team cover expenses as they prepare to make the
trip to France for the World Cup soccer competition
in July. This is one of the few events in Miami that
the team will make a public appearance before the
match, and the event has the full sanction of the
JFF.
The entire Caribbean community is supportive of the
Jamaican team and this will be evident through the
carnival-like atmosphere that will engulf the
amphitheater as vendors sell spicy Caribbean dishes,
quenching juices, colourful T-Shirts, caps and other
accessories promoting "The Reggae Boyz". It
promises to be a day of fun and unity not to be
missed.

team to play Paraguay and Nigeria

The
Reggae Boyz team is scheduled to play Top Brazilians
teams Corinthians on Thursday and Flamengo on
Saturday as they continue with their preparation in
Brazil. Flamengo has some top players including 94
World Cup Star Romario along with Palhinha and Zé
Roberto. The team will also meet World Cup finalists
Paraguay on January 22 and Nigeria in Kingston,
Jamaica, on February 22.

Boyz Up Two in Brazil

Andy Williams who recently returned to the team after
been sidelined by injuries and Christopher Dawyes
each scored to give Jamaica a 2-0 win over Mogie
Morin. in their most recent game on the tour of
Brazil. This is their second win in as many matches
as they won 1-0 on a Winston Griffith goal in the
other division one encounter.
The Reggae
Boyz receive hero's welcome in Brazil

The Reggae Boyz arrived in
Brazil to what can be described as a hero's style
welcome. The team received an outpouring of warm
greetings form the media and the people of Brazil.
The Reggae Boyz will be in Brazil for three weeks for
some intense practice and a series of games against
various teams. Coach Rene Simones has made it clear
that each player will have to work very hard and that
discipline will be of utmost importance. Squad
members do not comply with the rules will be sent
home immediately. On Thursday the team will play a
Sao Paulo invitational eleven including such players
as Dunga and Taffarel.

slapped with a J$5,000 fine and a two match
suspension for his involvement in an incident during
the Craven A National Premier League game between
Arnett Gardens and Waterhouse.
