BOYZ ON TRIAL
Reggae Boyz midfielder Tappa Whitmore and Captain/Goalkeeper Warren Barrett secured trials
with Queens Park Rangers. The two were invited to see if they can help the struggling
team. Another Reggae Boyz, Ian Pepe Goodison has secured a trial with Huddersfield
Town. Both Hudderfield and Queens Park Rangers play in the Nationwide Division.
GARDENER INJURED
Oct. 27
Ricardo Gardener is out of Bolton's Worthington Cup game with Norwcih City after pulling a
hamstring during Bolton's game against Bristol City. Gardener set up Arnar Gunnlaugsson
for Bolton's only goal, Bolton lost 1-2. Ricardo was substituted just a few minutes later.
It is hoped he will be able to play in the important league game against Sunderland next
Sunday (1st November).
JAMAICA U20 RETURN HOME FROM BRAZIL
The Jamaica Under 20 team completed their three week training tour of Brazil with a record
of one win three draws and five losses to professional club teams there. The team is
preparing for next months CONCACAF qualifying round of the Youth World Cup. They will meet
Guatemala, Mexico and Honduras, with the top two teams going to Nigeria next year.
JAMAICA SLIPS TWO SPOTS
Jamaica fell two spots in the latest FIFA world rankings to 32nd. Mexico is the top ranked
CONCACAF team at 11 while the United States is ranked at 17. Trinidad and Tobago slipped
two spots to 47th.
ONANDI LOWE TO START COACHING
Jamaica's defender Onandi Lowe will become the new coach of the Rockfort Football Club in
Jamaica. Lowe helped the team to reach the major leagues in the past and has decided to
returned and to make an invaluable contribution to the community and the club.
ONE LOVE, A NEW BOOK ON THE
TOURNAMENT IN FRANCE
In a recently published book by English based Reggae Boyz Robbie Earle, he
revealed that Technical Director Rene Simoes was advised to wear bullet proof vest after
he decided to leave Walter Boyd out of the Jamaican team. Simoes had received a number of
treats on his life for the decision. The name of the book is "One Love".
JAMAICA'S UNDER 20 TEAM IN BRAZIL
Jamaica's much touted under 20 soccer team was defeated 4-1 in their first match
of their three week tour of Brazil. In their second game they held their opponents to a
1-1 draw. In preparation for next months CONCACAF Youth qualifying competition, the young
Jamaican team will be in Brazil for their second tour this year.
GARDNER IMPRESSIVE WITH BOLTONS
TEAM
Reports from England on Ricardo Gardner states that he has now got a regular
place in the Bolton team, and has been getting better in every game he plays. Gardner
scored against Hull City in the Worthington Cup second round, second leg game (Bolton won
6-3 over the two legs). Bolton are currently 4th in the 1st Division, but are still
favourites for promotion to the Premiership. |
