JAMAICA FOOTBALL FEDERATION WOMEN'S LEAGUE KICKS OFF
June 27
The Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) will kick off it's women's football league with 5 games. In Zone "A" AC Milan will be up against UWI Pelicans at Breezy Castle. Harbour View will play the United Strikers at Water Commission and Greenwich Town will battle against Marverley-Hughenden as Tinson Pen. Zone "B" will see Real Mallorca at Untouchables at Cling Cling Oval and St. Jago Dela Vega Vs Eagles at Jarrett Park. The champions will receive $75,000, second place $50,000 and Third place $5,000.

TIVOLI RECEIVES ANOTHER TROPHY
The Tivoli Gardens FC received their trophy and cheque for becoming winners in the JNBS Federation KO Football Tournament The awards ceremony took place at the JFF offices. Also receiving awards were 18year old Chris Nicholas and Onandi Lowe of Waterhouse as leading scorers of the tournament and Alrick Henry of Violet Kickers for the most outstanding goalkeeper. Tivoli Gardens was also the winners of the National Premier Season title completing an outstanding season.

PAUL HALL TO WED IN JAMAICA

Reggae Boyz world cup player Pall Hall is said to be getting married in Jamaica to Sharlee Maxwell the niece of coach Geoffery Maxwell. The wedding will take place at the Church of the Open Bible in Portmore.

FOUR TEAM PLAYOFF FOR CONCACAF GOLD CUP SPOT

Cuba, Haiti, Canada and El Salvador will compete in a four team play off for the remaining two spots in the upcoming CONCACAF Gold Cup. The Official Schedule for the Gold Cup will be announced in the future. Jamaica and T&T have already qualified.

YOUNG REGGAE BOYZ LACKS FUNDS
June 25
Jamaica's Under 17 soccer team has canceled a tour of Brazil next month that was a scheduled part of their preparation for the World Youth Cup in New Zealand later this year. Horace Reid, General Secretary of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) announced the cancellation and stated that a similar trip to France was also in doubt due to financial problems by the JFF. Reid said that the cancellation will definitely affect the team's preparation for the World Cup as we wanted the team to have the best preparation possible but without adequate funding that is not possible.

ASSISTANT TO SIMOES RESIGNS
Jamaica's Assistant Technical Director to Rene Simoes, Brazilian Walter Gama, announced that he will resign as a member of the technical staff. Gama is unhappy with taxes imposed on his $5,000 per month salary that will now reduce his take home pay to about $3,000. Sources states that Gama is also being sought by the United States technical staff to help them in the preparation of the USA Under 17 team. It is also rumored that another Brazilian trainer, Alfredo Montesso is also unhappy with the arrangements and may also leave the JFF. Technical Director Rene Simoes is presently on leave in Brazil and could not be reached for comment.

TIVOLI GARDENS FC TO PLAY IN FLORIDA
June 24
In a press Release today Jamaicas Premier League champions, Tivoli Gardens FC will play against the Copa Latinas Champions Haiti Select on July 10th. The game is the first in a double Header at the Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale Florida where The Miami Fusion will play against the Columbus Crew. Game time is 4pm.

JAMAICA SLIPS IN WORLD RANKING

Jamaica slipped one spot to 41st in the latest FIFA/Coca-Cola world football rankings published on Wednesday. Cuba moved from 101st to 82nd. Trinidad and Tobago moved 10 places up to 60th. Some other Caribbean nations listed were Haiti at 106th, followed by Barbados 113th and Grenada 121st.

JAMAICA U-17 CALLS UP PLAYERS

Jamaica's Under-17 football team will see the return to the squad of Patrick Sappleton, who attends school in England and also the inclusion of Garfield Rennicks of Charlie Smith. Other players making up team are Allien Whittaker, Alex Thomas, Sheldon Battiste, Reinaldo Stewart, Sean Fraser, Kevin King, Keith Kelly, Keveral Stewart, Sedrick Chin, Ezra Prendergast, Shane Stevens, Eshaya Bryan, Dane Chambers, Keith Wilson, Kristopher Stone, Deshawn Woolery, Craig Gordon and Anthony Bennett.

JAMAICA U-17 IN GROUP D FOR YOUTH CHAMPIONSHIP

Jamaica's Under-17 team will be in Group D for their World Under 17 Football Championships in New Zealand  from Nov. 10th to 27th. The other teams in group D are Qatar, Paraguay and Burkina Faso. The other groups will be : Group A with The United States, Poland, New Zealand and Uruguay. Group B with Mexico, Ghana, Spain and Thailand and Group C with Brazil, Mali, Germany and the winner of the Australia vs Bahrain game. Jamaica has again made history by qualifying for the World Under 17 tournament.

ROBBIE EARLE RECEIVES MBE AWARD

The Reggae Boyz Robbie Earle was given the "Member Of The British Empire" (MBE) award at the Oueen of  England Birthday ceremony. Earle scored Jamaica's first world cup goal against Croatia in World Cup 98.

TRINIDAD WINS COPA CARIB CHAMPIONSHIP
June 14
Trinidad and Tobago  captured the Copa Caribe championship by defeating Cuba 2-1   in the last minute of sudden death overtime on Sunday at Hasely Crawford Field in Port of Spain, Trinidad. Cuba had possession of play in the first half but failed to score.Trinidad's captain Anthony Rougier opened  the scoring  in the 66th but Cuba's Sergui Prado equalized one minute before full time taking the game into overtime. Trinidad was awarded $80,000 for its victory and will now join last years tournament winner, Jamaica, in the USA Gold Cup competition. The game for third place between Jamaica and Haiti was canceled because of poor field conditions.

BRAZIL MASTERS JAMAICA
June 14
The Brazilian Masters  team came from behind to defeat the Jamaican Masters team 2-1 at Sabina Park in Jamaica. Jamaica went ahead with a goal from Paul Tegat Davis to the delight of the hometown supporters. Brazil showing superior conditioning came back with a Edwardo cross to Zico who equalized. Both teams played entertaining soccer with Brazil showing their superior teamwork before scoring the winner to make it 2-1. Jamaica's masters captain Howard Bell said that they were honored to be able to play against these legendary players and  that the Brazilians were in better condition than their Jamaican counterparts. He said that it showed that good ball control, simple passing and good conditioning were elements it takes to win the game.

DEFENDING CARIBBEAN CHAMPIONS DETHRONED
June 10
Jamaica's Reggae Boyz were stopped by Cuba 2-0 in their bid to retain the Copa Caribe Football title at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Trinidad on Thursday. Cuba's Miguel Gandara opened the scoring in the 55th minute when Christopher Dawes fouled Alvarez in the box and a penalty was awarded. Jamaica fought hard for the equalizer and missed a golden opportunity when Ray Graham shot wide of an open goal. Cuba again found the net with a Ariel Alvarez goal in extra time after he picked up a poor clearance by Whithmore and scored. The game was attended by over 2,000 spectators. Jamaica will now play on Saturday afternoon for the  third place spot.

The feature game between Trinidad and Haiti was stopped after the stadium lights went out. The game was rescheduled from Friday.

BRAZIL'S FORMER WORLD CUP STARS TO PLAY MASTERS INVITATIONAL
AGAINST JAMAICAN MASTERS

A Brazilizn masters team is scheduled to play a top linup of former Jamaican greats on Saturday at Sabina Park. The Brazilian players scheduled includes Zico, Cerezo, Batista, Junior, Eder, Leandro, Luizinho and Branco, and Paulo Isidoro. The Jamaican Masters wil include Howard "Bello" Bell, Donovan Hayles, Dennis Hutchinson, Lenny Hayde, Winston Anglin, Durrant Brown, Anthony Corbett, Douglas Bell, Roger Martin, Paul Tegat Davis and Alan Skill Cole. The team will be coached by Delroy Mutty Scott. Game time is 4pm and entertainment will be provided by Beenie Man.

JAMAICA WIN 2-1 TO QUALIFY FOR SEMI-FINAL IN COPA CARIBE FOOTBALL
June 7

Defending champion Jamaica qualified for Thursday's semi-final of the Copa-Caribe football championship in Trinidad by defeating Grenada 2-1. The Reggae Boyz, down 1-0 at halftime scored two goals in the second half to secure the semi-final spot. Ray Graham and Ricardo Fuller were the scorers for Jamaica while Jason Roberts scored for Grenada. Also qualifying for the semifinal were Group A winners T&T in Group A and Cuba and Haiti in Group B.

In other results Cuba defeated Brazil U-20, 1-0.

JAMAICA WHIPS GUADELOUPE IN COPA CARIBE FOOTBALL

Newcomer to the Reggae Boyz, Ray Graham scored a hatrick in Jamaica's 5-1 whipping of Guadeloupe in their Group "A" Copa Caribe football match at the Haseley Crawford Stadium in Trinidad on Saturday. Playing his second game for Jamaica, Graham, the national under-23 forward scored in the 62nd, 70th and 84th minutes in an outstanding game for the defending  champions. He came close to scoring again in the 89th minute with a shot from the right side that rebounded off the far post and was cleared away by the Guadeloupe defense. Jamaica's first goal came in the 42nd minute goal from Fabian Davis, whose 35-metre shot beat Guadeloupe's goal-keeper Eddy Ishmael.  The score remained 1-0 for the remainder of the half. 12 minutes into the second half, Davis passed to Winston Griffiths who scored to put Jamaica 2-0. In the 62nd minute, Graham received a pass from Ricardo Gardner to get the first of his three goals. Guadeloupe scored from a rebound in the 67 minute. Graham scored his second goal from a pass by Theodore Whitmore to give the Boyz a 4-1 lead. Graham came alive again in the 84th minute when he received a pass from Everton Bunsie and again scored to seal the issue.

Jamaica falls 1-0 to T&T in Copa Caribe football

Trinidad and Tobago defeated defending champions Jamaica 1-0 in their Group "A" Copa Caribe football match at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on Thursday night. The goal was scored by Stern John, last year's tournament MVP and the top scorer in US Major League Soccer. John's fourth minute goal came from a cross from the Miami Fusion's Mickey Trotman. Jamaica dominated the remainder of the half with some good passing but could not find the equalizer. Trinidad and Tobago, winners of six of the nine titles, threatened the Jamaican defense on a number occasions in the second half but failed to hit the back of the net again.

In Group "B" matches Friday, Haiti is up against Cuba, and St Kitts/Nevis meets guest team Brazil under-20s. On Saturday, TT will play Grenada, while Jamaica tackle Guadeloupe.

JAMAICA DEFEAT PREMIER LEAGUE IX
The reggaeboyz defeated an English premier league XI, 2-1 in a friendly soccer match on Sunday at Loftus Road. Scoring  for Jamaica were Walter Boyd in the 18 minute and Ricardo Fuller in the 52nd minute. The English premier league XI pulled one back with an Ian Wright goal in the 72nd minute.
