REGGAE
BOYZ DRAW WITH GUATEMALA
Nov 1
Jamaica and Guatemala played to a 1-1 draw at
the Estadio Cementos Progreso last night. Harbour
View's striker, Fabian Taylor, scored for the
Reggae Boyz to level the score after they found
themselves trailing on a Carlos Ruiz penalty kick.

to six. Coach Carl Brown was critical of his players
saying they lacked consistency and did not play
to their full potential. Jamaica's goal came in
the 61st minute when Taylor took advantage of
a left-sided corner from Irvino English and buried
it into the opponents net. The Boyz will now focus
on their upcoming Gold Cup qualifying (Cope Caribe)

Jamaica
U-17 Eliminate Antigua & Barbuda
October 25, 2002
ST JOHN'S, Antigua (CMC) -
Jamaica eliminated Antigua and Barbuda in the
World Under-17 football qualifiers after a second-leg
1-0 win in their Caribbean Football Union (CFU)
zone play-off at the Antigua Recreation Ground
(ARG) yesterday. Donovan Miller's first-half goal
decided the game as the young Jamaicans completed
a 7-1 aggregate win in the two-game series and
advanced a step closer to the CONCACAF Finals.
The Jamaicans are aiming for their second FIFA
Under-17 Finals in three tournaments, having appeared
at the 1999 finals in New Zealand, before missing
out on the 2001 finals in Trinidad and Tobago.
The Jamaicans, handsome 6-1 winners at home two
weeks ago, struggled to find their best form in
the first half but were still dominant. Miller
agonised when he struck the far post with a left
footer on the half hour, but celebrated eight
minutes later when he found the target with a
low left-footer from 16 yards that beat the Antigua
and Barbuda goalkeeper, Javed Joseph, at the far
post. Jamaica coach, Jackie Walters, was happy
to move into the next round but felt the quality
of the game was marred by an over-emphasis on
physical play. "It was a very physical game, they
(Antigua and Barbuda) started out very physical,
probably trying to intimidate us, but it didn't
work," he said. The Jamaicans now await the winner
of a four-team series involving Haiti, Barbados,
the Cayman Islands, and hosts, the Dominican Republic,
who they will play - in December - for a spot
in the CONCACAF Finals. The 2003 FIFA Under-17
World Cup will be staged in Finland next summer.
Teams: Jamaica - Dwayne Kerr, Richard Kentish,
Marlon Benbow, Kevin Dixon, Kemar Munroe, Kevon
Elliott, Anthony Christie, Seon Giveans (Olando
Dorma-73rd), Chris Williams (Ricardo Cousins-62nd),
Donovon Miller (Cabreni Lee-70th), Steve Morrisey.
Antigua & Barbuda - Javed Joseph, Yacamber Ocieknight
(Dosan Brown-57th), Cordell Sterling, Jon White,
Clifford Samuel, Vivian Destin, Jabari Luke, Vivian
Richards, Odell Murray (Clifton Silcott-28th),
Akeem Grant (Lawson Robinson-68th), Jermaine Lewis.

Jamaica's striker, Ricardo Fuller, scored an 80th
minute equalizer as Jamaica held Japan to a 1-1
draw in the Kirin Challenge Cup 2002 international
friendly at Tokyo's National Stadium on Wednesday
night. Japan opened the scoring in the seventh
minute when Shinji Ono beat Jamaican goalkeeper,
Aaron Lawrence, cleanly with a right-foot shot
into the far corner. Japan again came close when
they hit the crossbar in the opening minutes of
the second half, but were held at bay by the Jamaican
defence. The introduction of Fuller had immediate
impact on the Jamaican attack as he left defenders
chasing him. In the 80th minute Fuller collected
a square from Robert Scarlett overlapping down
the left, beat his defender, Toshihiro Hattori,
and then fired the loose ball over the outstretched
hands of Japan goalie for the equalizer. Jamaica
now have one win, one loss and a draw from their
meetings with Japan, including a 2-1 win in their
first encounter at the 1998 World Cup in France.
Japan defeated Jamaica 4-0 two years later at
the King Hassan Cup in Morocco. Jamaican coach
Carl Brown was justifiably satisfied with his
team's performance. "We played a good game against
a good team and this will serve us well for the
future," he said. The Jamaican squad was made
up of 11 foreign-based players including 22 year-old
defender, Craig Ziadie of the New York-New Jersey
