Reggae Boyz World Cup 2006 Agenda Outlined
Dec 7
JAMAICA'S REGGAE Boyz will kick off their qualifying
campaign for the 2006 World Cup against either
Haiti or Turks and Caicos Islands in June next
year. The matching was decided at FIFA's CONCACAF
zone draw yesterday in Germany, which will host
the championship. Haiti and Turks and Caicos were
drawn to meet in the first round for a two-game
series that promotes the winner on aggregate to
face Jamaica, which drew a first-round bye. All
told, 20 teams will play in the first round and
that number will be halved after the home-and-away
knockout series. The 10 qualifiers will join 14
other teams for a 24-nation second round from
which 12 will advance after two home-and-away
ties to the semi-finals. The semi-final round
dozen will play in three groups of four, with
the top two in each division advancing to a six-nation
Finals Competition which will ultimately decide
CONCACAF's 2006 World Cup qualifiers. Four CONCACAF
teams have a chance to qualify - the top three
will automatically advance and the fourth-place
finisher in the Finals Competition will tackle
the fifth-placed team in the Asian qualifiers
in a home-and-away series for the other place.

BOXHILL
DEFEATS BURRELL
Nov 23
Crenston Boxill was elect as the new president
of the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF) at the
Starfish Resort in Trelawny this morning, defeating
Captain Horace Burell after months of vigourous
campaigning by both candidates. The Boxhill team
campaigned on a platform that touted the total
remodelling of the football, promising changes
in the administrative structure, plus development
in infrastructure, youth and coaching programes.
Horace Burrell, who established himself in international
football circles by becoming a member and chairman
of FIFA's and CONCACAF's disciplinary committees,
and also serving as a Caribbean Football Union
(CFU) vice-president, had increasingly lost the
trust of the Jamaican football fraternity because
of his policy not to disclose how the administration
was spending funds assigned to the JFF. Preliminary
results of the 104 eligible votes give Boxhill
54 votes to Burell's 49 with one no vote. Captain
Burrell defeat was blamed on the arrogance, mismanagement
and disrespect his administration displayed over
the years and the frustred delegates made their
voices heard by voting him out. Asked about his
defeat, Burrell claimed that he had been deceived
by delegates who promised to vote for him. The
new JFF administration will also include George
Evans, Linnel McLean, Patrick L. Roberts, J.P.,
and Carlton Barclay. more

Reggae
Boyz whips El Salvador
Nov 17
Jamaica's Reggae Boyz handed an anemic looking
El Salvador aggregation 3-0 at the National Stadium,
in a game that marked the sixth anniversary of
Jamaica's qualification to the World Cup Finals
in France in 1998. Goals by English-based trio,
Ricardo Fuller (Preston North End), Kevin Lisbie
(Charlton Athletic) and Deon Burton (Swindon)
left no doubt as to the superior side in this
friendly international. The Boyz immediately took
control and scored after only six minutes as Fuller
latched on to an Ian Goodison's long pass and
calmly eluded goalkeeper, Santos Rivera, before
slotting home. Jamaica continued to dictate play
led by captain Theodore Whitmore, Micah Hyde,
Ricardo Fuller, Ricardo Gardner and Lisbie as
they launched numerous attacks on the Salvadorian
defense. Kevin Lisbie collected a well-measured
long pass from Gardner in the 72 minutes and blasted
it off the posts past Rivera, to put Jamaica up
by two goals. Deon Burton, who replaced Ricardo
Fuller the 65th minute, scored in the 85th minute
after collecting a perfect pass from Ricardo Gardner
to score his first national goal in over two years.
Technical director, Carl Brown, said that he was
pleased with his team's performance. He said "
We did what we had to do, we stepped up a gear
in the second half and got two goals". Brown
also had high marks for Mica Hyde and Ian "Pepe"
Goodison. Teams: Jamaica -- Donovan Ricketts (Aaron
Lawrence 46th), Ian Goodison, Claude Davis, Ricardo
Gardner, Fabian Davis (Gerald Neil 70th), Jamie

CONCACAF
OFFICIAL PROPOSED TO OVERSEE ELECTIONS
Nov 3
In a somewhat lively four-hour JFF executive meeting
at the Sandals Ocho Rios yesterday, proposals
were put forward to have a representative of CONCACAF
supervise the Jamaica Football Federation (JFF)
election set for November 23, and that candidates
should cease "negative campaigning" leading up
to the election. The head of the JFF, Captain
Horace Burrell, who is being challenged by chairman
of South central confederation, Crenston Boxhill,
outlined to journalists that a football academy
and training centre is been planned for Government-owned
lands in Portmore. It was disclosed that the facility
will be built on 12,570 square metres of land
with help from FIFA, which has donated money for
the project. There was no specific details about
academy nor a specific time frame for its completion.
Burrell stated that a if a CONCACAF representative
would serve as a "returning officer" , it would
eliminate the need for an Electoral Office of
Jamaican officials that was requested by the Boxhill.
Burrell also stated that as vice president of
the Caribbean Football Union , a member of the
disciplinary committee of FIFA, and also the chairman
of the disciplinary committee of CONCACAF, he
will do whatever possible to enhance the football
development in Jamaica. more

REGGAEBOYZ REPORT FROM GERMANY
August 20
Andy (Forum member)
SC Freiburg - Reggae Boyz U20 3-0 (2-0 Half
Time)
Match report:
The game was very hard (4 yellow cards in 25 minutes)
and Freiburg dominated the first half. They scored
2 goals in the first ten minutes. In the second
half the Reggae Boyz showed there true strength.
But they wasted too many chances and Freiburg
scored with a direct freekick. 3-0 for Freiburg,
also the end result. Moodie, Bernard and Priestley
were the players, who showed there skills. Wong
is also very talented, but he dribbled too much
and didn't see his teammates. This was the first
day in Oberndorf. ....and now the seond day!
Botafoga - Reggae Boyz U20 1-1 (1-0 half time)
Patrick or Frosch arrived in Oberndorf and the
Boyz played against Botafoga. They played a good
first half, but Botafoga scored, because the defence
made an error. The second half was much better.
They had many chances, especially trought Shelton,
Thompson and Priestley. In the final minute Thompson
scored a fine goal. 1-1 and the final whistle.
Thompson was very skillful, also Bernard in defence.
He looked like Onandi Lowe, was the captain and
had the same jersey number (#31) as the big man.
After a short break the Boyz played against Vitesse
Arnheim. I had the pleasure to spoke with masseur
Pablo about the Gold Cup and the Reggae Boyz.
He said, that Darren Byfield is a fantastic player
and the 16 years old Newcastle defender is unbelieveble.
Many children wanted autographs from the Reggae
Boyz players and also from us, because they thought,
that we are also players from Jamaica (white players).
We also weared the same jerseys. I spoke with
Carl Brown and he said, that Cleveland Taylor
is in Bolton and is in the 25 player squad for
Bolton.
Vitesse Arnheim - Reggae Boyz U20 0-0
The Reggae Boyz controlled almost the whole game
and had many chances, but scored no goal. The
Boyz played very hard and pressureed Vitesse Arnheim.
After the game, the boyz leave for lunch. We talked
with them and made photos. The Reggae Boyz U20
are very nice and the Girlz in Germany screamed
for them. The last game was against a very good
team: Athletico Madrid.
Athletico
Madrid- Reggae Boyz U20: 5-4 on penalties.
(1-1 Full Time)
The game decided place number 7 in that tournament.
The boyz played another good game, but they didn't
score. Atletico scored the first goal and I thought
that the boyz would lose the game. But that was
an error. The boyz fighted in the second half,
Bernard won every duel and was also very good
in the air and passing. Bernard is a gem, also
Teddy (Luton) and the new goalie Ryan Thompson.
Three minutes from the end the boyz scored for
the second time in this tournament and the goalscorer
was again Thompson. He is very small, but can
score goals. The game ended 1-1 After the game:
penalty kick. The first jamaican player scored
and Thompson saved the first. But Wong and Howard
missed. The game was over. More

MEXICO
TOO STRONG FOR BOYZ
July 21
Jamaica's ReggaeBoyz lost 5-0 to Mexico in the
2003 CONCACAF Gold Cup semifinals on Sunday afternoon
at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. The lack
luster one-sided game was an embarrassing affair
for the Jamaicans as they kept falling over themselves
and looked like players without a sense of purpose.
The absence of Onandi Lowe, Tyrone Marshall, Claude
Davis and Andy Williams were evident as the Boyz
failed to penetrate the Mexican defense and were
unable to stop the attack of the Mexican forwards.
Forward Omar Bravo got Mexico's goal's going in
38th minute, while midfielder Rafael Garcia made
it 2:0 just before half-time (42'). Forward Daniel
Osorno made it 3:0 at the 55th minute-mark, forward
Jared Borgetti added to the scoring in the 61st
minute for a 4:0 lead. Midfielder Juan Pablo Rodriguez
closed out the scoring in the 83rd minute for
the 5:0 final. This is the largest margin of victory
for Mexico in a Gold Cup match since a 5:0 win
over St. Vincent & Grenadines on 11 January 1996
in San Diego, California USA. Team Jamaica: Donovan
Ricketts - Damion Stewart, Michael Johnson, James
Lawrence, Andrew Williams (4: Fabian Taylor),
Darren Byfield (70: Gerald Neil), Theodore Whitmore,
Ricardo Gardner, Marco McDonald, Richard Langley
(59: Omar Daley), Craig Ziadie.

STOP GUATEMALA
July 15
Jamaica's Reggae Boyz scored a 2-0 win over Guatemala
at the Orange Bowl last night and qualified for
the quarter- finals of the 2003 CONCACAF Gold
Cup. The goals were scored by Onandi Lowe in the
30th minute and Andy Williams in 69th-minute from
a penalty in front of over 10,000 spectators.
The first goal came after Ricardo Gardner sent
a beautiful pass to Lowe who turned and released
a left footed rocket pass the Guatemalan goalkeeper.
The penalty came in the 69th minute, as Andy Williams
was brought down deep inside the box. His shot
was blocked by keeper, but the match officials
ruled that the goalkeeper had left his line illegally
and ordered the penalty retaken. Williams made
no mistake the second time giving Jamaica a 2-0
win.

SCORES IMPRESSIVE WIN OVER PARAGUAY
July 10
The Reggae Boyz put on a strong showing to stop
Paraguay 2-0 in a one-sided friendly game at the
National Stadium last night. First half goals
by Darren Byfield and Richard Langley gave the
Boyz a confident win going into this weekend's
Gold Cup competition. Jamaica made as many as
nine changes from the side that lost to Cuba,
and should have opened the scoring as early as
the sixth minute when Andy Williams sent Byfield
clear, but his effort was saved by Paraguay's
goalkeeper. Five minutes later Darren Byfield
made amends following a good buildup with Michael
Johnson floating the ball down the left flank
for Jamie Lawrence, who beat his marker and passed
to Ricardo Gardner. Gardner picked out an advancing
Andy Williams in the penalty area who slid the
ball across the face of the goal for Byfield to
slot in for the first goal. Just before the half
hour mark Langley scored the second goal when
he connected with a Byfield pass. Apart from some
skillful play by Theodore Whitmore, the second
half was less exciting as the Boyz appeared content
to hold on to their advantage. Team Jamaica: Donovan
Ricketts, Claude Davis (Marco McDonald 74th),
Tyrone Marshall, Craig Ziadie (Gerald Neil 81st),
Michael Johnson, Ricardo Gardner (Fabian Taylor
74th), Jamie Lawrence, Theodore Whitmore, Richard
Langley (Omar DAley 74th), Darren Byfield and
Andy Williams (Onandi Lowe 74th). More

FALLS 2-1 TO CUBA
July 07
The REGGAE BOYZ lost 2-1 to a hard-running and
technically superior Cuban team last night in
a friendly at the National Stadium in Jamaica.
Both of Cuba's goals came midway in the first
half as they created more chances and took advantage
of poor defending by the Boyz. Reisander Fernandez
and midfielder Jeniel Marquez each scored at the
20th and 28th minutes, respectively for the visitors,
while midfielder Richard Langley scored the only
goal for the Reggae Boyz with four minutes remaining.
Jamaica also had its chances but failed repeatedly
to convert them into goals. One was a wasted penalty
which forward Onandi Lowe failed to convert as
his shot was saved by Cuban goalkeeper Odelin
Molina. Another chance came from a Ricardo Gardner
and Robert Scarlett combination on the left with
Scarlett passing a long ball to Gerald Neil who
picked out Langley whose shot was deflected for
a corner. Jamaica finally scored when Roen Nelson
sent a long pass wide to Neil who headed to Byfield.
He skillfully beat his marker and then picked
out Langley who placed the ball past the Cuban
keeper. The Reggae Boyz will take on Paraguay
at the stadium on Wednesday and then leave for
Miami to face Colombia and Guatemala in the first
round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup. Jamaica: Aaron
Lawrence Ð (Sean Sawyers) Marco McDonald, Gerald
Neil, Damion Stewart, Ricardo Gardner, Robert
Scarlett (Keith Kelly), Omar Daley (Reon Nelson),
Richard Langley, Cornel Chin-Sue (Darren Byfield),
Onandi Lowe, Fabian Taylor. TD: Carl BROWN . More

VICTORIOUS OVER NIGERIA
May 26
Jamaica's ReggaeBoyz recorded their first win
over Nigeria with a 3-2 win at the National Stadium
last night. Goals from Rushden & Diamonds striker,
Onandi Lowe, Bolton Wanderers' Jermaine Johnson
and Chicago Fire's midfielder, Andy Williams were
too much for the Super Eagles who fought back
with goals by Uche Ugochekwu and skipper, Nwankwo
Kanu. Technical director, Carl Brown said he was
happy with the result as Jamaica really needed
the momentum going into the Gold Cup. Nigeria
had the better of the early exchanges and came
close to scoring on a few occasions. 25 minutes
into the game, Onandi Lowe opened the scoring
after receiving a pass from skipper, Theodore
Whitmore, the turned his marker, moved around
another and shot home from just inside the penalty
area sending the Jamaican supporters wild. The
Boyz struck again five minutes before the interval
when Johnson picked up a ball from Andy Williams,
faked his marker and then scored to give Jamaica
a 2-0 half-time lead. In the 66 minute Nigeria
hit back through Ugochekwu who outpaced both Claude
Davis and McDonald and calmly put the ball past
substitute goalkeeper, Aaron Lawrence. 11 minutes
later Kanu showed his brilliance after he controlled
the ball, surrounded by defenders, calmly turned
180 degrees and scored the equalizer. Jamaica
took advantage of added time when in the 93rd
minute Williams, picked up a pass from Frank Sinclair
and blasted Jamaica to victory. Jamaica-- Donovan
Ricketts (Lawrence 46th), Claude Davis, Marco
McDonald, Gerald Neil (Frank Sinclair 76th), Michael
Johnson, Micah Hyde, Jermaine Johnson (Omar Daley
71st), Ricardo Gardner, Theodore Whitmore (Damion
Stewart 71st), Andrew Williams and Onandi Lowe.
Nigeria -- Sunday Rotimi, Efetobe Sodje, Ifeanyi
Ekwueme, Bob Usim, Ogbonna Kanu, Garuba lawal,
Bina Ajuwa (Mobi Operaku 94th), Tony Alagbe, Nwankwo
Kanu, Uche Ugochukwu (Henry Nwosu 66th) and Samson
Goodwin (Nixon Dayoatoge 91st). More
