USA STOPS JAMAICA
July 29
Jamaica's Under 23 soccer team suffered its first loss of the Pan American Games on Thursday when they were defeated 2-1 by the USA. The USA scored their first goal in the 36th minute with a header from Sasha Victorine. Young Reggae Boy Ricardo Fuller equalized for Jamaica from a Winston Griffiths pass. The USA scored the winner in the 74th minute with Jamaica playing a man short as Claude Davis was sent off. Jamaica's next game will be on Saturday against group leaders Honduras.

LOWE AND GOODISON TO MISS GHANA TOUR

Technical director, Rene Simoes has reported that Onandi Lowe will not travel to Ghana with the Reggaeboyz because of his refusal  to take vaccines which are required of all the players before travelling. It was also reported that top defender Ian Goodison will also miss the tour as he is suffering from an inflamed groin.

JAMAICA DEFEATES CUBA AT PAN-AM GAMES
July 27
Jamaica Under-23 defeated Cuba 2-0 in the Pan American Pool B Games on Tuesday. Ricardo Fuller scored in the final mintues of the game while the first goal was an own goal. In the other game played on Tuesday Honduras defeated Uruguay 4-1. Jamaica's next assignment is against the USA on Thursday.

JAMAICA FOOTBALL FEDERATION PRESIDENT'S SON SHOT DEAD
July26
The son of Jamaica Football Federation President Captain Horace Burrell, 19 year old Tajh Burrell and a friend 22 year old Jason Byles were shot in the Liguanea area of St. Andrew Sunday night. Police reports that Tajh Burrell and Mr. Byles escorted a female friend to a pizza store in Liguanea. Upon exiting their car they were attacked by gunmen who opened fire hitting them killing Mr. Byles on the spot while Mr. Burrell was taken to the University hospital where he later succumb to his injuries.  What Do You Think?

MORE PLAYERS FOR TRYOUT
Three Jamaican players will get a chance to tryout with top Premiership club, Istanbul FC. The players, Onandi Lowe, Kevin Wilson and Christopher Dawes will travel to Turkey on Monday.  After the trial sessions the players will meet with the rest of the Jamaican team in London for the trip to Ghana where they will play two friendly internationals on August 7 and 11.

UNDER 23 WIN OPENER AT PAN-AM GAMES
July 24
Jamaica Under-23 opened their Pan Am games assignment with a 2-0 win over South American powerhouse Uruguay in Pool B at The Winnipeg Soccer Complex In Canada on Friday. Goals from Tivoli Gardens FC Steve Green from the penalty spot in the 11th minute and then a 67th minute goal from Tivoli Gardens FC Ricardo Fuller gave the Jamaicans full points from their first game. In the other Group B game, the USA defeated Cuba 1-0. Jamaica's next assignment will be Cuba on July 27th.

ANDY WILLIAMS INCLUDED IN UNDER 23 TEAM FOR PAN-AM GAMES
July 23
Jamaica's Under-23 will see action against Uruguay in the Pan American Games which officially starts today in Winnipeg, Canada. The 18-man squad will include senior team player Andy Williams of the US Major League Soccer team, Columbus Crew and he will play with Tivoli Gardens striker Ricardo Fuller up front. Other players includes Steve Green, Winston Griffiths, Mark Williams, Claude Davis, Robert Scarlett, Patrick Graham, Ainsworth Kerr, Shavar Thomas and goalkeeper/captain Donovan Ricketts. Assistant technical director, Wendell Downswell was brought in as head coach to replace Neville "Bertis" Bell who resigned suddenly after the team returned from their tour of Germany. The Jamaican camp is said to be ready and some good results are expected in the tournament.

23 MAN SQUAD CALLED FOR GHANA GAMES
July 23
A 23-man squad has been called up in preparation for the two-match friendly series against Ghana, in Ghana, on August 7 and 11.  Newcomers Patrick Wong and  Kendre Quarrie who has trained with the team previously, Anthony Barnes of the Jamaica Defence Force, Selvin Collins of Arnett Gardens, Richard Reeves, Wolde Harris, Kevin 'Pele' Wilson, Gregory Messam and Patrick Beech, Marco McDonald, Linval Dixon, Ian Goodison, Fabian Davis, Donald Stewart, Clifton Waugh, Theodore Whitmore, Jermaine Johnson, Anthony Curtis, Cornel Chin-Sue and Aaron Lawrence. Also included is the captain of Birmingham City Michael Johnson.

WALTER BOYD DOING WELL AT WATFORD FC

Controversial Jamaican striker, Walter Boyd is reported to be showing good form at his tryout with Watford Football Club in the United Kingdom. Boyd's performances has been so impressive that he could become the first Jamaica-grown talent to play in the English Premiership. Barry McIntosh, Boyds representative is hopeful for a positive outcome.

LAMEY IMPRESSIVE AT TRYOUT WITH ANKARA FC

Kevin Lamey of Waterhouse who is on tryout with Ankara FC, a top Turkish football team, is said to have impress the coaching staff and will travel with the team to Australia for the teams preseason practice. Theodore Whitmore of Seba, Fabian Davis of Hazard returned home from their tryout with the club.

TICKETS SOLD OUT FOR GHANA GAMES

The two-match friendly between Jamaica and Ghana scheduled for August 7th and 11th.is generating a lot of excitement in the West African republic. Reports from Ghana indicates that both games have been sold out. The games  will be shown live via satellite in England, and the venues where the matches will be shown are also sold out. The Reggae Boyz will first fly to New York  where they will catch their connecting flight to Accra on Ghanian Airways.

JAMAICA SLIPS IN RANKINS
Jamaica slips two spots in the latest Coco Cola World Rankins from 41 to 43. Trinidad and Tobago moved up eleven spots to 49th. Brazil remains in the number one spot

BELL TURNED DOWN BY THE JFF
July 21
A recommendation by Rene Simoes to the Jamaica Football Federation for Vernon Bell, coach of Tivoli Gardens FC, to join the national coaching staff was rejected by the JFF. Head of the JFF Captain Burrell's reaction was the JFF did not feel that Mr. Bell was the right person for the job. Bell who has had training sessions in Brazil was not surprised at the decision, but stated that he would like to know the reasons for his rejection. What Do You Think?

NEW COACHES APPOINTED TO PROGRAM
July 21
With the emphasis on the next generation of coaches for the national program, head of the JFF Captain Burrell announced the appointment of a number of assistant coaches to the program. Assistants appointed are: Under-15; Hector Wright, coach of Seba and Junior Samuels assistant coach at Galaxy. Under-17: Everton Tomlinson coach of Galaxy and former national goalkeeper coach. Under-20: Christopher Ziadie former national player and coach of Real Mona. Under-23: Peter Cargill, former national player and coach of Harbour View Football Club. Senior team: Wendell Downswell. In the Women's program: Christopher Bender coach of Hazard and coach of Business House team Wray & Nephew. National Under-17 coach Patrick "Jackie" Walters was appointed as the national coordinator of the Under-15, Under-17 and Under-20 squads and Dr. Dean Wheatherly as his assistant.  What Do You Think?

LAWRENCE DOING WELL

National goalkeeper Aaron Lawrence seem to be doing well in his tryouts at English first division team, Birmingham City. His tryout with the team has been extended twice and he is expected to play in some upcoming games.

BUSY SCHEDULE AHEAD FOR BOYZ
July 21
The Reggae Boyz is scheduled to play a two-match tour of Ghana early next month. There they will play that country's national team in two friendlies on August 7 and 11. Three weeks later the team will play Canada at the Varsity Stadium in Toronto before traveling to Miami's Orange Bowl to play in a double header which will feature Ecuador or Peru along with Trinidad and Tobago and Columbia. The team then heads home to meet the United States at the National Stadium on September 8. They will then face rivals Trinidad and Tobago on October 10 also at the National Stadium. The schedule also includes a game against the Cayman Islands, on October 24 and a friendly against either Australia or Nigeria in London sometime in November.

U23 COACH QUITS

The Coach of U23 Neville "Bertis" Bell has quit the program, and it is reported that it's due to differences with the hiring of new Brazilian coaches. There has been no official statement on the matter. What Do You Think?

SAUDI ARABIA DEFEAT JAMAICA
July 17
The Reggae Boyz lost their second game against Saudi Arabia 4-0 on Thursday July 15. The Boyz have since return home to prepare for Ghana trip.

RICARDO FULLER IMPRESSIVE
Jamaica's New sensation, Ricardo Fuller, has impressed a number of club officials on his recent tour with the Reggaeboyz. It has been reported that Asian Super Club champions Alhalil's owner Newaf Al Saud was very interested in the young player becoming a part of his club.

REGGAE BOYZ DEFEAT SAUDI ARABIA IN FIRST OF TWO GAMES
July 14
The Reggae Boyz defeated Saudi Arabia 2-1 in the first of two games at the San Bernadino Blaste Stadium in Los Angeles, California. Saudi Arabia scored in the 25th minute from a corner on the right side which was headed pass Ricketts in goal for Jamaica. Jamaica equalised in the 43rd minute when Ricardo Fuller dismissed about four Saudi defenders and then sent a perfect cross for Griffiths who scored. The second half saw an attacking Jamaican team launching a series of runs at the Saudis. Fuller again struck in the 69th minute after he picked up a ball from captain, Linval Dixon, wormed his way around a host of Saudis and then blasting a powerful shot into the Saudi Arabian net for the winner. The second game will be on the 15th of July.

HAITI SELECT DEFEATS TIVOLI GARDENS FC
July 10
Haiti Select defeated Tivoli Gardens FC 2-1 at the Lockhart Stadium in Ft. Lauderdale Florida in an entertaining game on Saturday. Haiti Select opened the scoring nine minutes into the game after poor work in Tivoli's defense placed the ball at the feet of the Haitian striker to rip into the net. Tivoli came under immediate pressure again but some brilliant work by their goalkeeper Edsel Scott kept Haiti Select at bay. Tivoli slowly took control of the game with their slow methodical plays led by midfielders Steve Green and captain Anthony Curtis and were rewarded with the equalizer in the 37th minute from a Andres Chisholm goal. Tivoli controlled the remainder of the first half. Haiti again struck in the 67 minute easily penetrating their opponents defense with a quick counter attack to score their second goal. Steve Green led a series of Tivoli attacks but poor finishing by Tivoli kept them from getting the equalizer. The ReggaeBoyz.com player of the game was Tivoli custodian Edsel Scott.

JAMAICA IN GROUP B FOR PAN AMERICAN GAMES
July 8
Jamaica's first round in the Pan American Games Football competition will be against South American powerhouse Uruguay at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex on Friday, July 23. Other Zone B teams are the USA, Honduras and Cuba. Uruguay replaces El Salvador. In Zone A will feature Mexico, Costa Rica, Canada, Guatemala and Trinidad and Tobago. Jamaica’s Zone B schedule will be Uruguay on July 23, Cuba on July 27, USA on July 29 and Honduras on July 31.

UNDER-23 WIN ON GERMAN TOUR

Jamaica's Under-23 football squad opened their first Germany tour with a 2-0 victory against SPGG Kaufbeuren. Both goals came in the second half with Ainsworth Kerr scoring in the 58th minute and Kasai Hinds in the 83rd minute. The victory has boosted the team confidence as they get ready to take on a Chiemsee team made up of the best amateurs from the Bavarian province. Both Coach Neville Bell and Brazilian trainer Clovis de Oliviera are happy with the teams performance at practice and announced an unchanged squad for the second game. The tour will serve as a tune up for the Pan Am Games July 23rd at the Winnipeg Soccer Complex in Canada. REGGAEBOYZ CALLS UP ADDITIONAL PLAYERS

Three uncapped players were called up to begin training with the senior squad, in preparation for a two-match series against Saudi Arabia in California next week. Under-23 reserve Marvin Carridice of Hazard, Selvin Collins of Arnett Gardens and Alrick Henry of Violet Kickers, the MVP of the recent JNBS Federation Cup Knockout tournament and Jamaica Defense Force keeper Tony Barnes. Missing will be national captain and goalkeeper Warren Barrett who is recovering from treatment for tendonitis of the patella in his right knee

Three jamaican players, Theodore Whitmore of Seba, Fabian Davis of Hazard and Kevin Lamey of Waterhouse will leave for tryout with Ankara FC. a top Turkish football team.

REGGAE BOYZ TO PLAY SAUDI ARABIA AND GHANA
The Reggae Boyz will play
a two-match series against Saudi Arabia in California next week. The games will be held at CAL State University and will be held on July 13 & 15th.The team will then travel to Ghana for two games on August 7th and 11th.

Reggaeboyz defender, Ian Pepe Goodison will travel to Scottish Premiership team Hibernian for them to take a look at him. Goodison who plays for Olympic Gardens will spend three weeks with the Scottish team returning July 25th.

Fort Lauderdale, Fla. July1
The Miami Fusion announced today it will host a pre-game friendly between Jamaican Club Champion Tivoli Gardens FC and  Copa Latina Champion Haiti Select USA as part of the team's Caribbean day Celebration on July 10. The friendly kicks-off at 4.30. The Fusion battles Trinidad and Tobago star forward Stern John and the Columbus Crew at 7.30 p.m. in the main event. The celebration will include Caribbean entertainment and food.

Tivoli Gardens FC is one of Jamaica's premier soccer clubs, having recently won "the double" (league and cup championships). The team is powered by five Jamaica National Team players, including World Cup  '98 veteran Steve Green (M). Forward Ricardo Fuller, one of the island-nation's top young stars, anchors the Tivoli attack.

Haiti Select is the current champion of Copa Latina, a tournament held in Miami every year where top South Florida amateur and semi-professional club meet in one of the nations most exciting and culturally diverse soccer events. Former Fort Lauderdale Strikers player Zenono Jn Baptiste coaches the Miami-based Haitian team. Florida International University and Haitian National Team striker Sebastian Volbe- as well as several guest players from the Haitian National Team- are expected to line-up for Haiti Select.
