GOODISON MAY GET NOD
Oct 30
Hull City's top center-back Justin Whittle will miss his first game this season
because of a groin injury. The Tiger's have two very experienced center-backs to
replace him - Jon Whitney and Steve Morgan - but as manager Warren Joyce
compared to Ian Goodison to Justin Whittle in a radio interview yesterday, it seemed to be a strong hint that Goodison get the nod to start. Joyce also explained that he was concerned about all the traveling the two Reggae Boyz had done this week, as well as getting used to the English weather. He's leaving his decision until the last minute - kick-off is at 3pm BST. There is doubts about Theodore Whitmore playing in today's game because it is likely to be very physical. FA Cup matches are usually more passionate than the regular league games and todays game is being labeled as a grudge match.. It therefore seems sensible not to risk Whitmore but to bring him in for Gary at Rochdale on Tuesday night.

GOODISON IMPRESSIVE IN RESERVES GAME
Oct 28
Ian Goodison and Theodore Whitmore played for the reserves at Hartlepool last night in preparation for their debut with Hull City. City reserve goalkeeper Lee Bracey was sent off in their lost 0-1 loss. It is uncertain if Whithmore and Goodison will play this Saturday for Hull, but with their leading center-back Justin Whittle looking very doubtful', Ian Goodison has a good chance of making his debut especially as he was described as 'impressive' last night.

WHITMORE AND DAWES FINED BY JFF
Oct 27
The Jamaica Football Federation has fined Theodore Whitmore and Christopher Dawes for failing to report for national duties. They were both fined $25,000 (Jamaican
dollars) for failing to make themselves available for Jamaica's international against the Cayman Islands last weekend. Jamaica defeated The Cayman Islands 4-1. Whitmore had also failed to report for national duties against Ghana earlier this year. Dawes failed to report for the national team but instead represented his club team Galaxy against Tivoli Gardens.

REGGAE BOYZ SET FOR FA CUP DEBUT
Oct 26
Jamaica's World Cup heroes Ian Goodison and Theodore Whitmore are poised to
make surprise debuts in English football for Hull City in Saturday's FA Cup at Macclesfield Town.

Hull officials feared strict regulations would rule their new Reggae Boyz out
of the First Round clash but the club's director of football administration
David Capper has confirmed that the FA have accepted the registrations - just
minutes before the signing deadline expired!

The talented duo - outstanding in the '98 World Cup success - flew into
England today (Tuesday) and Hull manager Warren Joyce hopes they will be able
to play for City's reserve team at Hartlepool tomorrow night. If they prove
their fitness, the Tigers' boss will find it difficult to leave them out of
his weekend plans as they were so impressive in trial matches earlier this
month.

The FA Cup is widely regarded as the world's greatest club knock-out
competition and, as well as its endearing romance, can prove a valuable
money-spinner for lower division clubs such as Hull. The Third Division
Tigers enjoyed a memorable Third Round visit to Premiership giants Aston
Villa last season and will be hopeful of a repeat performance this term.

If they can overcome their Division Three rivals on Saturday, City will have
to clear the Second Round hurdle before relying on the luck of the draw to
give them another crack at one of England's biggest clubs in mid-December.

Controversy has already surrounded this season's competition as
treble-winners Manchester United have made an unprecedented withdrawal, in
favour of the inaugural World Club Championship to be played in Brazil in
January. Present director and famous former player Sir Bobby Charlton today
pleaded with his fellow board members to reconsider their decision.

It means Hull might not get the chance pit their soccer wits against United
but the likes of Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool and Leeds United are only two
games away. It gives Goodison and Whitmore the ideal chance to make an
immediate impact with the Tigers - and immediately win a place in the hearts
of their new fans.

THE "PEARL" SCORES AGAIN
Oct 20
2,692 game fans saw Swansea and Exeter City play to a 1-1 draw on a dry St James Park with biting wind and low temperature. Jamaica's Walter Boyd looked far more lively than in any of his previous games as both teams struggled to score. Boyd brought life to the fans when he picked up a ball in his own half and weaved his way towards goal. He then passed the ball to Roberts who laid it off to Watkin but his shot missed the target. In the second half Boyd pressured Exter's centre back into giving the ball away to Watkin who then gave Boyd a through pass. Boyd darted for the 50-50 ball versus the keeper with Boyd getting the better of the encounter to blast the ball into an empty net in the 55th minute. It was Boyd's third goal in three games since signing with Swansea City.

PERMIT BID FOR WHITMORE AND GOODISON
Hull City hopes to be winning by the end of the month with the help of Theodore Whitmore and Ian Goodison. Hull is trying to secure work permits for the two Jamaican World Cup stars in time for them to make their debuts in the first round of the FA Cup on October 30. There's still a chance for Whitmore and Goodison to become available before then, depending on the Department of Overseas' Employment (DOE) which processes the applications. Hull City's has already contacted the DOE and is hoping the work permits will become available within three weeks. Whitmore and Goodison both meets the regulations regarding signings from non-EEC countries. The players have played in 75 per cent of Jamaica's matches during the last year while their country is ranked among the top 70 footballing nations in the world. Capper added: ‘‘Those factors should help our case considerably and we certainly hope the permits will be in place by the end of the month, at the latest.''

BOYD SCORES 2 GOALS IN DEBUT
Oct 12
boyd2.jpg (5390 bytes)Jamaica striker Walter "Black Pearl" Boyd made a sensational start to the English Third Division by scoring 2 goals yesterday as Swansea defeated Rotherham United 2 - 0 at Vetch Field. The 27-year-old Reggae Boy became an instant hero when scored to give Swansea their first win in five games. Boyd made his mark seven minutes into the game after he pounced on a rebound off the post from a Bound shot to send the Swans on their way. The second goal in the 82nd minute was brilliantly taken, a quick burst after a Cussack flick and a cool lob over the advancing goalkeeper. Boyd seem a bit unfit and suffering from jetlag but he was devastating in front of the goal and seems to be the answer that Swansea needs.

WHITMORE AND GOODISON GETS CONTRACT WITH HULL CITY
The following reports were submitted by readers of thereggaeboyz.com
TIGERS TO SIGN WOLD CUP STARS
Duo make instant impression
Hull City have signed Jamaican World Cup stars Theodore Whitmore and Ian
Goodison. Tigers boss Warren Joyce reached an agreement with the players'
agent within an hour of watching the duo star for City's reserve side
against Chesterfield yesterday. Midfielder Whitmore, in particular, looked
to be an outstanding prospect and Joyce moved swiftly amid growing fears the
players could be poached by rival clubs. Joyce said: ‘‘Anyone who watched
the two lads must have been impressed. They looked quality players and they
are used to performing alongside some of our Premiership stars with Jamaica.
‘‘We've also had a good look at them in training so there's no point hanging
about. The last thing we want is to see them disappearing to other clubs.
They are happy here and we are delighted they have agreed to sign for us.''
<<...>> Final details of the deal – including the length of contracts –
were being hammered out today. Neither player will cost City a fee.
However, Tigers fans could have to wait for up to a month to see Whitmore
and Goodison in first team action. It is understood both players will
require work permits. Whitmore scored two goals for Jamaica against Japan
in the 1998 World Cup in France. A talented central midfielder, he showed
his full range of skills yesterday, albeit against Chesterfield. Goodison
is a utility defender who played at centre back. He's big, strong and
appeared to possess a good turn of pace. Joyce added: ‘‘We have been
looking to strengthen midfield and Theodore looks as though he could be the
answer. As for Ian, he will add some quality to our squad.'' The duo
joined City on trial at the start of this week along with a third Jamaican,
Steve Malcolm. The full back, another established international, is likely
to be handed another chance to impress. Meanwhile, City could be forced to
sign a loan goalkeeper in time for Saturday's Third Division clash at
Hartlepool. First choice Lee Bracey is banned and there are worries about
Steve Wilson's match fitness after a recent knee injury. The only other
keeper on City's book is Matt Baker but he lacks big game experience.
Joyce explained: ‘‘We'll see how ‘‘Willo'' is before Saturday. He played a
full game in the reserves yesterday and we're hoping there won't be any
reaction.''

whitmore.jpg (2692 bytes)Dazzling performance by Whitmore.
Jamaica is obviously a hot-bed for talented footballers, especially on the evidence of Hull City's Pontins League clash against Chestefield at Boothferry Park yesterday.
Trialist Theodore Whitmore, who starred for Jamaica in the last World Cup, produced a dazzling debut in City's colours. The gangly midfielder teased, tormented and toyed with Chesterfield in a display which oozed skill and confidence. No wonder watching Tigers boss Warren Joyce opened contract negotiations straight after the match! Whitmore looked a class above anything else on the pitch - and anything City fans have seen for a long while. Okay, he might have needed a ball to himself at times but his control and passing ability was a joy to watch. Backed by fellow countrymen Steve Malcolm and Ian Goodison, Whitmore ran the show and fully deserved a standing ovation from a big crowd, tempted along by the presence of the three Jamaicans and free admission. City, unbeaten at reserve level this season, faced a formidable test against a Chesterfield line-up which included eight first team regulars. The visitors took the lead in the second minute, centre back Steve Payne beating Steve Wilson with a crisp drive after City had only half-cleared a cross. The Tigers did look vulnerable at the back. A well taken goal from Dave D'Auria in the seventh minute after impressive work by Whitmore hauled City level but Chesterfield scored twice between the 23rd and 26th minutes to establish a 3-1 lead. City, though, were always in with a shout and right on half time, D'Auria's great cross from the right was powerfully headed home by David Brown. The Tigers had the best chances in the second half and deservedly drew level in the 77th minute. Another terrific run from Whitmore and an almost casual pass with the outside of his left boot set up Jamie Wood who made no mistake from 12 yards. But for those defensive lapses, City could have won but a draw was probably a fair result. Just one final question. When was the last time the Tigers' fielded four full internationals in the same game? City: Wilson; Malcolm, Bolder, Goodison, Perry, Morgan; D'Auria, Whitmore, Quigley; Brown, Wood. Subs: (not used) Morley, Baker, Hawes, French, Tucker.
